Three local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental have declared a state of calamity following the destruction caused by Typhoon Tino.
The Office of the Civil Defense–Negros Island Region (OCD-NIR) said La Carlota City, and the towns of La Castellana and Toboso, made the declaration on Thursday, November 6, after the typhoon’s onslaught damaged homes, crops, and infrastructure.
Two more LGUs—Binalbagan and Himamaylan City—are preparing to make the same move. In Himamaylan, all barangays suffered from flooding and landslides triggered by heavy rains.
Vice Mayor Justin Gatuslao told Brigada News FM Philippines that the city council will meet at 2 pm today to approve the declaration, following their assessment that confirmed the urgent need for it.
Meanwhile, the Office of the President has announced the release of P50 million in financial assistance for Negros Occidental, as part of its support for recovery efforts in the province.*
