Thirteen members of two related families in Sitio Common, Barangay Bacayan, Cebu City were killed when flash floods swept through their homes at the height of Typhoon Tino early Tuesday, November 4.
According to Brigada News FM Cebu, the victims belonged to the Yosores and Betinol families. The tragedy occurred around 4 a.m., when torrential rain caused severe flooding in the area.
James Yosores, brother of victims Gina and Venus, said they had repeatedly warned family members to evacuate, but the water rose too quickly. “We told them several times to leave, but the flood came suddenly,” he said.
Among the dead were Gina, her 24-year-old son, Venus, six of her children, two grandchildren, and two in-laws.
Three people remained missing as of Wednesday morning, while ten of the victims were being prepared for wakes at the Barangay Bacayan hall.
Video footage taken after the storm showed destroyed homes and debris scattered across the sitio, underscoring the typhoon’s destructive force on the community.
Local authorities have yet to release a full damage report but said search and recovery operations will continue until all missing residents are found.
