The severe tropical storm “Fung-Wong,” to be locally named Typhoon Uwan once it enters the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), has intensified as it approaches the country, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In its 11 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said Uwan now packs maximum sustained winds of up to 100 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness reaching 125 kph.
The weather bureau said the storm is expected to enter PAR by Friday night or early Saturday morning. Once inside, it will be closely monitored for further strengthening as it moves toward northern Luzon.
By Sunday, Uwan is projected to make landfall over the southern portion of Isabela or possibly the northern part of Aurora province.
PAGASA also warned that Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals may soon be raised over parts of Southern Luzon, Eastern Visayas, and the Caraga region as the typhoon draws closer.
Residents in affected areas are advised to remain alert for heavy rainfall, possible flooding, and strong winds. PAGASA continues to monitor the storm’s movement and intensity and is expected to issue additional bulletins as Uwan moves nearer to land.
