Typhoon Marce (Yinxing) is rapidly intensifying and is expected to make landfall soon in Santa Ana, Cagayan, with the potential to reach near super typhoon strength, according to the latest update from PAGASA at 2:00 PM on November 7, 2024.
The storm’s center was last located over the coastal waters of Santa Ana, Cagayan, at coordinates 18.5°N, 122.5°E. As of the update, Typhoon Marce is packing maximum sustained winds of 175 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 240 km/h. The storm’s central pressure is recorded at 940 hPa. Marce is currently moving west-northwest at 10 km/h and is expected to bring severe weather conditions to large parts of northern Luzon.
In response to the intensifying storm, PAGASA has raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 in the northern portion of Cagayan, including the Babuyan Islands, the northern part of Apayao, and Ilocos Norte. These areas are expected to experience typhoon-force winds, with the potential for significant damage to life and property.
Meanwhile, Signal No. 3 has been raised for Batanes, the rest of Cagayan, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, and parts of Abra and Ilocos Sur, with storm-force winds and moderate to significant threats to life and property.
The rest of northern and central Luzon, including Isabela, Kalinga, and Benguet, are under Signal No. 2, with gale-force winds expected. Signal No. 1 is in effect in additional regions, indicating strong winds.
PAGASA has warned residents in affected areas to take necessary precautions, including evacuations and advised the public to stay informed through official updates. The storm is expected to make landfall later today or early tomorrow, with continued monitoring for potential updates.
