The death toll from a road crash in Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur, has risen to six, according to an updated police report.
The crash happened around noon Tuesday, Sept. 1, along the National Highway in Barangay Pag-Asa, Dumalinao.
Initial reports had placed the number of fatalities at five. The updated report from the Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Office confirmed that six people had died, while four others were injured.
The passenger van was traveling from Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, to Pagadian City when it allegedly lost its brakes and collided with a moving motorcycle.
The van then crashed into a parked wing van truck, pushing it forward. The truck subsequently collided with a moving Kawasaki Bajaj motorcycle with sidecar.
The fatalities included two residents of Dumalinao, one male resident of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay, one unidentified female passenger and two unidentified males, including the van driver.
The four injured victims included residents of Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte; Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay; Talon-Talon, Zamboanga City; and a member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Responding police personnel assisted at the scene, while the injured were taken to hospitals in Pagadian City.
Six victims were declared dead by a physician from the Dumalinao Rural Health Unit.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
