Vice President Sara Duterte posted bail Saturday after proceedings at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court following the issuance of an arrest warrant in connection with grave threats cases.
Duterte went to the Quezon City Hall of Justice at around 11 a.m. after the warrant was issued against her. She was met by her lawyers, Atty. Michael Poa and Atty. Paul Lawrence Lim.
Speaking to the media, Duterte said she was concerned about her security. She said police went to the area where her mother and children were staying earlier Saturday.
Duterte said she no longer trusted the police or the court. She questioned who would be held responsible if something happened to her.
The vice president said the court and police could potentially say that an incident was an accident and deny responsibility.
Duterte and her lawyers discussed the filing of bail for nearly 30 minutes. She also initially refused to enter the Quezon City Hall of Justice alone because she was worried about her safety.
Duterte said she did not know what could happen to her inside the building. She added that she wanted the public to see her face the process.
At around 11:30 a.m., Duterte eventually entered the Quezon City Hall of Justice. The proceedings included the service of the arrest warrant, booking procedures and the posting of bail.
Duterte’s appearance at the courthouse followed the issuance of the arrest warrant in connection with the grave threats cases. Her statements before entering the building centered on her concerns about security and her distrust of the police and court.
Her appearance marked her participation in the court process following the warrant’s issuance. Duterte had earlier said she wanted the public to witness her compliance with the process despite her concerns about what could happen inside the courthouse.
