Sen. Imee Marcos refutes edited quote targeting First Lady

Sen. Imee Marcos denied a viral online post that claimed she insulted First Lady Liza Marcos, calling the circulating edited photo entirely false.

In a statement on her social media accounts, the senator said she never made the remarks attributed to her. The fabricated graphic suggested she told the First Lady to be thankful because she allegedly pushed her to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. It also included offensive claims about the First Lady’s appearance.

Marcos warned the public to be wary of similar manipulated materials, saying false statements only add noise to public discussions and do not help anyone.

The Office of the Presidential Communications also clarified that it never released any statement from the First Lady regarding the senator. A supposed response circulating online claimed the First Lady accused Marcos of being “as fake as her retouched face,” which the office said was also fabricated.

Both parties dismissed the posts as fake and encouraged the public to verify information before sharing it.

The spread of these edited graphics adds to ongoing concerns about misinformation circulating on social media, where misleading content can spread quickly before it can be corrected.
