SC affirms guilty verdict in murder case over killing of Kian delos Santos

The Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of the police officers involved in the killing of Kian delos Santos in 2017.

The incident occurred amid the bloody war on drugs under the Duterte administration.

Those convicted are Caloocan police officers Arnel Oares, Jeremiah Pereda, and Jerwin Cruz.

In its ruling, the Supreme Court stressed that the elements of murder were present in the case.

It may be recalled that in November 2018, the officers were sentenced to reclusion perpetua, or up to 40 years of imprisonment, for the killing of delos Santos.
