Passengers of an L300 van traveling the Calinan-Bankerohan route rushed to get out after the vehicle caught fire along Davao-Bukidnon Road in Quarry, Tugbok, Davao City, shortly after 6 a.m. on Sept. 30.
Passenger Angel Mae Yap said the van was carrying passengers from Calinan when they noticed the smell of something burning.
They then noticed smoke coming from the area near the driver’s seat.
The passengers immediately evacuated the van. Yap said that after they got out, the smoke quickly intensified before flames followed.
She described the incident as happening very quickly.
According to Yap, the passengers did not immediately notice that something was wrong with the vehicle because some were busy using their mobile phones while others were wearing AirPods.
The passengers were able to get out of the vehicle before the fire intensified.
No injuries were reported, and all passengers were safe following the incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Authorities are continuing to look into what caused the L300 van to catch fire while it was traveling along the Davao-Bukidnon Road.
The incident temporarily caused alarm among passengers and motorists in the area as the vehicle caught fire during the morning trip.
