A rockslide has struck the Ponta Gorda section of the coastal highway in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental, prompting warnings from local authorities.
Fallen soil and large boulders blocked part of the road, temporarily affecting vehicles bound for Balingasag and nearby towns.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) immediately deployed personnel to assess the situation and clear debris.
Officials urged motorists to slow down, maintain safe distance, and avoid unnecessary travel while road clearing operations continue.
The rockslide occurred early Saturday following several hours of rainfall brought by Typhoon Uwan, which has drenched much of Northern Mindanao.
Responders reported that heavy rains softened the slope, causing rocks and vegetation to collapse onto the pavement.
Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident. Authorities temporarily closed one lane while equipment and responders worked to remove the debris.
Photos taken by Jasaan MDRRMO showed a massive boulder and scattered soil blocking a portion of the curved mountain road.
Local officials are now monitoring nearby slopes for possible secondary slides as rains continue across Misamis Oriental.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will conduct a technical inspection to evaluate the stability of the affected hillside.
Motorists are advised to remain cautious, especially along the Punta Gorda–Balingasag route, where similar incidents have previously occurred during prolonged rains.
As clearing crews work through the day, authorities remind residents that vigilance saves lives, especially when nature turns unpredictable.
