Local authorities in Mambajao, Camiguin Province have begun implementing pre-emptive evacuations as Typhoon Uwan continues to move closer to Northern Mindanao.
Families from flood-prone and coastal areas were immediately escorted to Mambajao Central School, which has been converted into an evacuation center.
Barangay officials, along with volunteers, assisted residents in carrying their belongings and guided senior citizens and children to safe classrooms.
The Poblacion Barangay Council led the operation, ensuring that evacuees receive food, water, and temporary bedding.
The decision to evacuate came after PAGASA placed Camiguin under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2, warning of strong winds and heavy rainfall.
According to Brigada Correspondent Arniel Dablo, several residents began moving voluntarily even before the official order, fearing landslides and flash floods.
The local government also deployed emergency vehicles to transport families from isolated sitios. Health workers were present to monitor evacuees for potential injuries or illnesses.
The prompt action of local responders reflects the community’s readiness and unity in times of disaster.
