The Philippine National Police (PNP) has identified the vlogger allegedly responsible for spreading false claims that former President Rodrigo Duterte’s home in Davao City was going to be raided.
While the name of the individual has not been made public, PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil confirmed that charges will be filed against the vlogger on Monday.
The PNP had earlier denied the claim, labeling it as fake news. The viral video alleged that personnel from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the Special Action Force (SAF) were in Davao to conduct a raid on Duterte’s residence.
CIDG Director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III also clarified in an official statement that no operations were being carried out by his unit in Davao City at that time.
Authorities have yet to disclose the specific charges to be filed, but the incident has raised concerns about the rapid spread of unverified information online, particularly on social media platforms.
The PNP said the case aims to serve as a warning against the publication and distribution of false or misleading content that may incite panic or public distrust.
