The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) continues to heighten its efforts to ensure swift and organized response to the anticipated effects of Super Typhoon Uwan.
In an interview with Brigada News FM Manila, PCG Spokesperson Capt. Noemie Cayabyab said the agency has remained on full alert since Oplan Undas.
This means that from the Undas operations, through the onslaught of Typhoon Tino, and now in preparing for Typhoon Uwan, Coast Guard personnel have been on standby and ready for deployment.
Cayabyab added that teams have already been dispatched for immediate response operations.
Apart from manpower, the PCG has also mobilized additional rescue equipment and life-saving gear.
The agency likewise assured support for other affected areas by sending more equipment and mobility assets.
Cayabyab also reminded coastal communities to bring their boats to higher ground and avoid venturing out to sea.
She acknowledged that fishing is the primary source of livelihood for many residents, but emphasized that safety must always come first.
