National ID required starting April for pension claims

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) announced that beginning April 1, beneficiaries of the Indigent Senior Citizens program (SocPen) will be required to present a PhilSys National ID to receive their pensions.

According to the DSWD, the PhilSys ID will serve as the primary valid identification for payout transactions under the program.

The requirement is part of the government’s broader initiative to make the National ID the main form of identification for various transactions.

Under the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010, qualified senior citizens receive a monthly allowance of P1,000 from the DSWD.

In 2025, around 4.1 million individuals aged 60 and above benefited from the pension program.
