The legal counsel of Ronald dela Rosa, Atty. Israelito Torreon, continues to urge authorities to course the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) through local courts.
This came after the Office of the Solicitor General submitted its comment before the Supreme Court of the Philippines opposing Dela Rosa’s motions seeking to stop the implementation of the ICC arrest warrant.
According to the OSG, no individual attempting to evade legal processes should be granted protection.
In an interview today, Torreon stressed that there is currently no local warrant of arrest issued against the lawmaker in the Philippines.
Because of this, their camp maintains that Dela Rosa should not be considered a fugitive.
In the end, the lawyer appealed for the public to respect Dela Rosa’s human rights.
He said there is nothing wrong with respecting the Bill of Rights under the 1987 Philippine Constitution, which aims to protect individuals and ensure due process.
