Two individuals were killed while another was injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire on passengers riding a pedicab along Buaya Road in Barangay Magugpo East, Tagum City, Davao del Norte on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the initial investigation of the Tagum City Police Station, the shooting happened around 4 p.m. on May 20, 2026.
Police said six passengers were riding the tricycle at the time of the attack, but only three of them appeared to have been the targets of the suspects. The driver and the other three passengers were unharmed during the incident.
Investigators revealed that the victims were supposedly heading to a terminal to return home to Panabo City when they were suddenly followed and attacked by the suspects.
Authorities said the assailants were riding two motorcycles when they carried out the shooting along Buaya Road.
The two victims died from gunshot wounds, while the injured victim was rushed to a hospital and continues to receive medical treatment.
As of Wednesday, police authorities are continuing their hot pursuit operation to immediately identify and arrest the suspects and the possible masterminds behind the crime.
The Tagum City Police Station has yet to release the identities of the victims and suspects as the investigation remains ongoing.
