Former Peruvian president faces up to 14 years in prison for corruption

According to the court, Vizcarra accepted bribes even before assuming the presidency. The ruling states that he received as much as $676,000 in bribes from construction firms in exchange for public works contracts while he was serving as a regional governor from 2011 to 2014.

In a post on X, Vizcarra called the ruling unjust and an act of “revenge,” insisting that it would not destroy him.

His camp has already filed an appeal against the decision.
