The National Bureau of Investigation–Southeastern Mindanao Regional Office (NBI-XI) is conducting a deeper probe into the possible wider operations of eight Chinese nationals arrested from a dismantled illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub in Davao City.
According to NBI-XI Director Arcelito Albao, the agency is examining whether the suspects are connected to a larger online gambling network. Confiscated equipment, including computers, laptops, and multiple mobile phones allegedly used in illegal activities, is now under forensic review.
The investigation revealed that the suspects rented a house on Gardenia Street, Montclair Highlands, Buhangin in April this year. Residents reportedly became suspicious of their activities, prompting complaints and subsequent surveillance by authorities.
Following verification, operatives moved in and arrested the eight individuals. They are now in NBI custody while legal proceedings are underway.
Authorities said the suspects may face deportation if found to have violated Philippine laws. The investigation is also aimed at tracing any local or foreign accomplices involved in the operation.
The NBI reiterated its warning against illegal POGO activities, noting that such operations often involve foreign nationals and pose risks to local communities. Officials assured that enforcement efforts against unlicensed gambling hubs will continue.
As of press time, no additional details on the broader network have been released, and the suspects’ identities remain undisclosed pending further verification.
