Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Zaldy Co tendered his irrevocable resignation from the House of Representatives on September 29, 2025.
Co cited what he described as “real, direct, grave and imminent threats” to his life and family, and alleged denial of his right to due process.
His resignation comes amid a government investigation into alleged corruption tied to flood control projects and questioned budget insertions.
The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) has recommended filing graft, malversation, and falsification charges against Co and several DPWH officials.
One specific project under scrutiny is the ₱289.5 million road-dike flood management initiative along the Mag-Asawang Tubig River in Oriental Mindoro.
According to public statements, Co denied involvement in illicit financial dealings and maintained he would return to the country to clear his name.
Before his resignation, House Speaker Bojie Dy had revoked Co’s travel clearance and demanded his return within ten days to face allegations.
In his resignation letter to Dy, Co said he would arrange for the Ako Bicol party to nominate a replacement representative to ensure continuity.
Meanwhile, critics argue that resignation alone does not absolve Co of responsibility, calling for full accountability and further investigation.
Co also indicated he was temporarily stepping away from the Ako Bicol party amid the allegations, though he assured the group’s public service efforts would continue.
As of now, the successor representative for Ako Bicol has not been officially announced, pending party nomination and House procedures
