Robredo sees no political bias in Marcos calamity fund distribution

Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo said she believes the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is distributing calamity assistance funds to local governments without regard to political affiliation.

Robredo made the statement following the ceremonial turnover of Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Assistance Program (DRRAP) funds at Malacañang on Nov. 5. The assistance is intended to support the rehabilitation and reconstruction of infrastructure damaged by disasters.

In an interview at the Palace, Robredo noted that local officials who attended the event came from different political parties. She was seated beside Laguna Gov. Sol Aragones.

Robredo said she was informed that the selection of beneficiary local governments was based on damage reports submitted by the Office of Civil Defense following previous disasters.

She also assured the public that Naga City would not have ghost projects, citing the city’s participatory budgeting process.

Under the process, various sectors and representatives of residents directly participate in preparing and monitoring the city’s budget.

Her remarks came as the national government turned over assistance intended to help local governments rebuild infrastructure damaged by calamities.
