A major fire broke out at PC Compound in Barangay Zone 1, Zamboanga City, shortly after 10 a.m., rapidly spreading through residential houses as most structures were built with light materials and situated close to one another.
Firefighters faced difficulties reaching the affected area because narrow and inaccessible roads prevented fire trucks from entering the community. As the flames spread, many residents were forced to evacuate, leaving their homes behind. Most were unable to save their belongings and other valuables.
The fire was raised to the third alarm, with firefighters continuing their operations to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby houses.
The Philippine Air Force also joined the firefighting efforts by deploying a helicopter equipped with a water bucket. The helicopter collected seawater and dropped it over the burning structures to help extinguish the flames.
As of this writing, authorities have yet to release information about the origin and cause of the fire. The extent of the damage and the number of residents affected are also still being determined. Via Noning Antonio | Brigada News FM Zamboanga Duro
