Young motorists continue illegal street racing in General Santos City

A barangay official confirmed that some young motorists continue conducting illegal motorcycle races along highways in General Santos City despite intensified police monitoring operations.

According to Kagawad Editha Cabsaban of Barangay Katangawan, racers reportedly monitor police movements before gathering and competing along the Diversion Road area.

Cabsaban said she personally witnesses the illegal racing activities because their residence stands near the highway frequently used by young riders.

Meanwhile, Purok 6-B Chairperson Vienna Visorio clarified that her area currently has no major problems involving motorcycle drag racing incidents.

Despite having cemented roads within their purok, Visorio explained that local officials continue reminding residents about existing regulations involving motorcycles and public disturbances.

She added that officials regularly visit households to remind motorcycle owners against using loud open-pipe exhaust systems that disturb nearby residents.

Authorities intensified nightly police monitoring operations after a previous road accident reportedly linked to illegal motorcycle racing activities along the national highway.

Because racers allegedly transferred activities toward the diversion road, Cabsaban urged young riders to stop dangerous racing activities before serious accidents occur.

She also reminded parents to closely monitor their children and discourage them from participating in illegal nighttime motorcycle racing gatherings.

Local authorities continue coordinating with police officers to strengthen road safety enforcement measures and prevent additional accidents involving reckless motorcycle racers.
