Typhoon Tino (international name Kalmaegi) has knocked out five transmission lines across the Visayas and Mindanao, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) reported on Tuesday, November 4.
The outages affect the Maasin-Baybay 69kV Line serving Leyte IV Electric Cooperative Inc. (LEYECO IV); the Ormoc-San Isidro 69kV Line supplying Don Orestes Romualdez Electric Cooperative, Inc. (DORECO) in Tolosa, Leyte, Southern Leyte Electric Cooperative Inc. (SOLECO), LEYECO III, and LEYECO V; the Ormoc-Baybay 69kV Line servicing LEYECO IV and LEYECO V; the Maasin-San Isidro 69kV Line providing power to SOLECO; and the Placer-Madrid 69kV Line supplying Surigao del Norte Electric Cooperative (SURNECO), Siargao Electric Cooperative (SIARELCO), and Surigao del Sur II Electric Cooperative (SURSECO II).
NGCP also reported that one 38kV line and one 350kV line are down, although the affected areas remain unspecified.
The utility immediately deployed line crews and conducted patrols, carrying out simultaneous restoration activities in areas already accessible, NGCP said.
Residents in affected areas are advised to prepare for intermittent power outages as NGCP works to restore the transmission lines.
