Authorities charged a police officer with murder after he confessed to killing a woman he reportedly had a relationship with.
The Talisay Component City Police Station filed a murder complaint against him at the Talisay City Prosecutor’s Office on Sunday, November 2.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group–Negros Island Region (CIDG-NIR) now holds Gonzalodo in custody, authorities said.
Staff Sergeant Enrique Gonzalodo Jr., 43, assigned to Bacolod City Police Station 5, admitted his involvement in the killing of 42-year-old Kristine Joy Dignadice.
Colonel Dennis Wenceslao, director of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, said Gonzalodo, who is married, confirmed his illicit relationship with the victim.
On October 29, Gonzalodo and Dignadice met in Talisay City and argued inside the car driven by the latter. Gonzalodo said the gun between them discharged during the confrontation.
Wenceslao said a brief argument broke out between the two. The victim tried to grab the gun, the suspect wrestled it back, and it discharged, killing the woman.
Authorities discovered Dignadice’s gray sedan, marked with bloodstains, abandoned in Sitio So-ol, Barangay Gargato, Hinigaran, later that day.
Gonzalodo surrendered on November 1 and told police he left the victim’s body in Barangay Don Jorge Araneta, Bago City.
Officers recovered her body in a sugarcane field hours later.*
