Three NPA leaders killed in Camarines Sur Clash

Three high-ranking leaders of the New People’s Army and two other members were killed during an armed encounter with government forces on Dec. 23 in Barangay Burabod, Lagonoy town, Camarines Sur military officials said.

The clash occurred at about 6 a.m. during an operation led by the 83rd Infantry Battalion under the operational control of the 901st Infantry Brigade, with support from police units. The operation targeted members of the Sub-Regional Committee 2 of the Bicol Regional Party Committee.

The military identified the fatalities as Christopher Endrinal, also known as “Bal,” head of the Regional Urban Committee; Ramil Recto, alias “Paeng,” secretary of KLG 1; and Danilo Budino, alias “Ter” or “Dado,” secretary of KLG 2. Authorities said the identities of two other individuals killed are still being verified.

Recovered from the encounter site were an M16 rifle and a caliber .45 pistol, according to the military.

The operation was conducted after security forces monitored alleged intimidation and extortion activities by the group against residents in the area.

Lt. Col. Randy Eloreta, commanding officer of the 83rd Infantry Battalion, said the deaths of the leaders dealt a significant blow to the armed group. He called on remaining members to abandon the armed struggle and return to civilian life.

Brig. Gen. Emil J. Cruz, commander of the 901st Infantry Brigade, commended the joint efforts of the military and police during the operation. He also urged individuals supporting the Communist Terrorist Groups to stop providing assistance and to surrender.

Authorities said operations in the area are continuing as part of security efforts in Camarines Sur.
