219,000 customers in Hawaii lose power as Hurricane Lala sweeps through region

An estimated 219,000 utility customers across Hawaii were left without power after Hurricane Lala brushed the Big Island before weakening into a tropical storm.

Authorities reported that at least 100 homes were damaged, while two houses were swept away by severe flooding.

Meanwhile, around 117 people were staying in evacuation shelters as the storm brought widespread flooding to southern parts of Hawaii.

One person was also reported dead in a vehicle-related accident amid the severe weather.

All airports in Hawaii have since reopened, but residents and travelers were advised to remain alert and monitor updates from authorities.
