Tricycle driver killed, 10 injured in Toledo City collision

A tricycle driver was killed while 10 others were injured in a collision involving two tricycles and a motorcycle early Tuesday, Dec. 23, in Barangay Canlumampao, Toledo City, Cebu, police said.

The fatality was identified only by the alias “Yoyo,” a resident of the barangay. He was declared dead on arrival at a hospital following the crash, according to the Toledo City Police Station.

Initial police investigation showed that two tricycles were traveling in the same direction along the road. The tricycle driven by alias “Dodoy” was in front, while the tricycle driven by Yoyo was behind it.

Police said Yoyo attempted to overtake and entered the opposite lane, where his tricycle collided with an oncoming motorcycle driven by a man identified as alias “Rene.”

Due to the impact, Yoyo’s tricycle also crashed into the tricycle driven by Dodoy, authorities said.

Aside from Yoyo, those injured included one of his passengers, Dodoy and five of Dodoy’s passengers, as well as Rene and two passengers riding on his motorcycle.

All injured individuals were taken to a hospital for medical treatment. Police did not provide details on their conditions.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash and to establish possible liabilities.

Police reminded motorists to exercise caution, especially when overtaking, and to remain alert while driving, particularly during the early morning hours when visibility and reaction time may be reduced.
