TDC urges GSIS to provide more substantial aid for teachers affected by recent calamities

The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) is calling for more meaningful assistance from the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) in light of the severe damage brought by recent typhoons.

This appeal comes despite GSIS’ assurance that calamity loans with a three-month moratorium will be made available. In a letter addressed to GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso, the group outlined measures that could help ease the financial and emotional burden faced by teachers in affected communities.

Among their requests are direct cash assistance for severely impacted members, zero-interest calamity loans, and a penalty-free loan payment moratorium.

The group emphasized that many teachers and their families are currently rebuilding damaged homes, dealing with medical emergencies, and striving to secure food and basic needs.

TDC pointed out that if small cooperatives and parishes can extend direct aid to their members, it is only fitting for the GSIS—being a larger institution—to do the same in support of its constituents.
