Robbery suspect killed after clash with police in Bacolod

One of two robbery suspects was killed after allegedly resisting police during a confrontation Monday evening in Bacolod City.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on March 2 along Roxas Street in Barangay 40.

According to Police Capt. Peter John Ramos, chief of Police Station 6, the suspects posed as passengers before carrying out a robbery against a taxi driver.

The suspects were identified as Benjie, 31, and Ferdinand, 28.

Police said the suspects declared a holdup while inside the taxi driven by Gil, a 74-year-old driver.

The suspects allegedly threatened the driver using a bladed weapon and a firearm. The victim sustained several injuries after reportedly resisting the robbery.

After the incident, the suspects got out of the taxi near Lupit Church and attempted to flee.

Police officers who were patrolling the area responded after the victim asked for help.

Authorities said the incident led to a pursuit and an armed confrontation between the suspects and responding officers.

During the encounter, Ferdinand was killed.

His companion, Benjie, was arrested by police.

One police officer was also injured during the incident.

Authorities recovered a machete and an unidentified firearm at the scene.

Police said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
