Retired Police Captain Elias Dandan, former Chief of Pikit Municipal Police Station, died along with a companion in Datu Montawal.
The two victims were traveling in a black Pick-Up Strada, plate LGT 243, along Barangay Pagagawan’s National Highway Friday afternoon.
Three unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle suddenly intercepted the vehicle and opened fire, striking both victims multiple times at close range.
The gunmen’s bullets struck critical parts of their bodies, killing the victims instantly before anyone could rush them to a hospital.
PCPT. Nurjhasier Sali, Municipal Police Chief of Datu Montawal, confirmed the victims’ deaths and immediately ordered a hot pursuit operation.
Police teams worked alongside forty soldiers from the Philippine Army to track down the suspects and establish checkpoints along escape routes.
Investigators are reviewing eyewitness reports, vehicle details, and other evidence to identify all suspects involved in the deadly ambush of Dandan.
Investigators are also determining whether the gunmen targeted the retired police officer personally or acted due to other possible motives.
Residents expressed shock over the shooting, urging police and military authorities to provide immediate security and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The investigation is ongoing, and police continue to search for the remaining suspects while coordinating with regional units for intelligence and operational support.
