The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Embassy of Oman in Manila are set to meet next week to discuss the requirement for Filipino travelers to present negative HIV test results.
On Friday, the DFA said it had already made “strong representations” to the embassy seeking the removal of the policy.
The measure was reportedly implemented without prior official notice to the Philippines.
According to the DFA, the embassy clarified that the HIV certificate requirement applies only to tourists availing of visa-free entry to Oman, and not to those issued work visas.
In addition, tourists traveling to Oman who applied for and were granted visas are also required to submit HIV certificates to airlines before being allowed to board their flights.
The DFA expressed hope for a positive outcome from the meeting, citing the strong and stable relations between the Philippines and Oman.
