More than ₱4 million worth of seized, confiscated, and surrendered illegal drugs were destroyed Tuesday morning in Davao City. The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office 11 carried out the activity as part of the Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week 2025.
PDEA Regional Director Edgar Jubay led the destruction at Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes along J. Camus Extension and Jose Abad Santos Street. The activity began around 9 a.m. and followed the requirements of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
According to PDEA, the destroyed items had a total value of ₱4,020,036.48, not including expired medicines. The items included 497.3788 grams of shabu worth ₱3,382,175.84 and 5,303.8387 grams of marijuana worth ₱637,860.64. Expired medicines valued at about ₱3,308 were also included. The items were processed through the funeral home’s thermal incinerator.
PDEA said the destruction was intended to ensure proper disposal of drug evidence. The agency noted that the process also responds to public skepticism regarding alleged recycling of seized drugs by law enforcement agencies.
The activity was witnessed by Regional Trial Court Judge Marie Estrellita Tolentino-Rojas of Branch 17 in Davao City. Representatives from the Department of Justice, Public Attorney’s Office, an elected public official, civil society organizations, and media members were also present. Their attendance was intended to support transparency and accountability.
PDEA Regional Office 11 stated it remains committed to protecting the integrity of the government’s anti-drug efforts by ensuring all drug evidence under its custody is lawfully and permanently destroyed.
