Wingvan loaded with parcels falls down roadside slope in Aklan

A delivery truck carrying parcels fell into an embankment early Monday in Sitio Bangbang, Barangay Feliciano, Balete, Aklan. The incident happened before dawn on November 17 as rain continued across parts of the province. Authorities confirmed that the wingvan’s driver, identified as 30-year-old Edgardo Robles, was unharmed.

Robles told Brigada News FM Kalibo that he had departed from Iloilo and was scheduled to deliver parcels to several towns in Aklan. He said the weather had already turned unfavorable as he traveled toward Balete. According to Robles, the roads were wet during those hours, and he noticed the truck’s brake system failed when he reached the area. He said he was unable to stop the vehicle, which caused it to veer off and plunge into the embankment.

Responders arrived on site shortly after the crash. Robles was able to step out of the wingvan without injuries, and no one else was involved. The truck, loaded with parcels intended for distribution across Aklan, remained at the scene as authorities assessed the damage.

Officials issued another reminder to motorists traveling during poor weather conditions. They emphasized the risks posed by slippery roads and mechanical issues that may arise when vehicles are exposed to extended periods of rain. The advisory urged drivers to check their brakes regularly, reduce speed, and maintain caution when maneuvering through curved or sloped areas.

As of Monday morning, authorities had not announced any road closures or additional hazards in the area. The recovery of the wingvan and the handling of the parcels were still being coordinated.
