Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, the leader of the controversial Kingdom of Jesus Christ religious group, was hospitalized after experiencing chest pains and an irregular heartbeat, the Philippine National Police confirmed on Monday.
According to PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo, Quiboloy, who is currently detained at the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame, was rushed to the Philippine Heart Center last Friday for immediate medical attention. The irregular heartbeat was described as “potentially life-threatening,” prompting the authorities to prioritize his treatment.
Quiboloy’s hospitalization comes at a time when his legal battles continue to make headlines. The self-styled “appointed son of God” faces serious charges of qualified human trafficking and sexual abuse. These charges stem from accusations that he and other members of his religious group trafficked women and girls for sexual exploitation. Quiboloy, however, denies the charges, claiming that they are part of a smear campaign orchestrated by disgruntled former followers.
In a related development, it was noted that Quiboloy’s legal team had previously filed a request for hospital arrest in September due to his health issues. However, the Pasig City Regional Trial Court denied the request in October, ruling that Quiboloy would remain in police custody while awaiting trial.
The PNP has not disclosed further details about the pastor’s condition, though officials have assured the public that Quiboloy is receiving appropriate care. He will remain under police supervision while being treated at the hospital.
As of now, Quiboloy’s legal team has not provided any comment regarding his ongoing detention and hospitalization.
