Alex Eala could secure Olympic berth through Asian Games

Filipina tennis star Alex Eala could punch her ticket to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics as early as October if she wins the women’s singles gold medal at the upcoming Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

Under the International Tennis Federation’s qualification pathway, the singles champions from the Asian Games and other continental multi-sport events are eligible for direct qualification to the LA 2028 Olympics.

Eala is set to represent the Philippines at the Asian Games, which will be held from September 27 to October 3. She recently advanced to the third round of the US Open and is currently ranked No. 18 in the world, according to recent reports.

Even without an Asian Games gold medal, Eala could still qualify through the regular Olympic ranking pathway.

However, she would need to maintain a high enough ranking through the 2028 qualification cutoff.

The 21-year-old is also coming off a breakthrough season, highlighted by her first WTA Tour title and victories over several top-ranked players.
