Malacañang has denied that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. “dumped” his cousin, former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, in connection with the flood control scandal.
The Palace said the Office of the Ombudsman’s actions are based on evidence gathered and not on political considerations.
According to Malacañang, Marcos remains neutral and focused on the legal process surrounding the case.
The Palace also said it supports Romualdez speaking about other individuals who may be involved in the alleged anomaly, provided there is sufficient evidence and the allegations are not fabricated.
Romualdez had earlier said in a video that he would not agree to become a “fall guy” for other people’s corruption. He also said he would not allow himself to be the only person held accountable for the alleged anomaly.
Romualdez is facing a plunder case filed by the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with an alleged kickback scheme involving flood control projects.
Malacañang’s statement disputes the claim that Marcos abandoned Romualdez and maintains that the Ombudsman’s actions are based on evidence rather than politics.
The Palace also emphasized that allegations against other possible individuals should be supported by sufficient evidence.
