Malacañang on Monday rejected claims from the Makabayan bloc that the administration has failed to take sufficient action amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
The Palace issued the response following criticism from the Makabayan bloc, which alleged that the government’s response has been limited to announcements of fuel rollbacks, subsidies, and other limited programs. The group argued that stronger measures, such as the removal of excise tax, should be considered to ease the burden on the public.
In a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro denied the allegation that the administration has done nothing to mitigate the effects of the crisis.
Castro said the government has already implemented several measures to address the situation and remains open to suggestions from various sectors.
She also questioned the criticism directed at President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., saying it has been difficult to understand certain remarks against the President.
According to Castro, some critics question the President’s absence when he is not publicly seen, but continue to criticize when he provides updates and reports on government actions.
Despite the criticisms, Malacañang said the President will continue focusing on efforts aimed at addressing the effects of the Middle East crisis on the country.
The Palace reiterated that the administration remains committed to implementing programs designed to lessen the impact of the crisis on the public and ensure continued government response as the situation develops.
