Grenade attack on military truck injures five in Maguindanao del Sur

Two Philippine Army soldiers and three civilians were injured after suspected attackers hurled a grenade at a military truck in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao del Sur, early Saturday morning.

According to the Shariff Aguak Municipal Police Station, the attack occurred at about 6:26 a.m. in the Roundball area of Barangay Mother Poblacion.

Police said personnel from the 2nd Special Forces-related unit (2nd SRB), 4th SRC, FSRR and SOCOM of the Philippine Army were traveling aboard a KM truck along the national highway when two unidentified suspects riding a black motorcycle allegedly threw a grenade at the vehicle.

The explosion injured two soldiers identified as Cpl. Bulanay and Cpl. Calapan.

Three civilians were also wounded in the blast. Authorities identified them as Jhon Dave Usman, a street sweeper; Basser Amban, a passing motorist; and Fahima Bulingking, who was jogging in the area when the explosion occurred.

All five victims were immediately taken to the Bangsamoro Regional Hospital for treatment.

Police and other security forces have launched dragnet operations to locate and arrest the suspects, who fled the scene after the attack.

Authorities are also conducting a full investigation to determine the identities of those responsible and establish the motive behind the grenade attack.

No group has claimed responsibility for the incident as of Saturday, and investigators have not released additional details regarding the suspects.

The attack remains under active investigation as security forces continue pursuit operations in the area.
