PAGASA warns of flood, landslide risks as four weather systems affect PH

The country is facing a convergence of four weather systems, each pulling rain into different parts of the Philippines, the state weather bureau said on Friday, November 28.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the trough of Severe Tropical Storm Koto (formerly Verbena) continues to drag scattered rains and thunderstorms over Palawan, even as the storm moves farther away.

In Northern Luzon and parts of the Visayas, the shear line remains active, bringing scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms to Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, and Nueva Vizcaya.

Over the eastern seaboard, warm winds from the easterlies will trigger the same rainy conditions across Aurora and Quezon.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or amihan will continue to dump rains over the Ilocos Region, Batanes, and the rest of the Cordillera Administrative Region.

PAGASA warned that moderate to heavy rains in these areas may lead to flashfloods or landslides, especially in flood-prone or landslide-prone communities.

Across Metro Manila and the rest of the country, weather will be generally fair but still marked by isolated rain showers from localized thunderstorms.

The bureau added that moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail over Northern Luzon and the western sections of Central and Southern Luzon, while the rest of the archipelago will experience light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters.*
