House Deputy Minority Leader France Castro believes that the Iglesia ni Cristo’s National Rally for Peace today is an attempt to protect Vice President Sara Duterte from being held accountable for corruption allegations.
According to Castro, this is not about peace and unity but a calculated move to cover up VP Sara from answering the serious allegations regarding the alleged misuse of confidential funds.
Castro emphasized that the timing of the rally coincided with the growing public call for accountability as clearly indicated by the Social Weather Stations survey where 41 percent of respondents support the impeachment against Duterte.
The lawmaker said Filipinos deserve to know the explanation for the spending of confidential funds and as the secretary of the Department of Education (DEPED) is the alarming drop in the performance of students in international assessments in Math, English and Science.
She added, no amount of rally can erase the fact that government officials must be held accountable for their actions and true peace and unity cannot be achieved through this.
Castro together with two other members of Makabayan bloc served as endorsers of one of the three impeachment complaint against Vice President Duterte.
As of Monday noon, over a million members of INC attend the National Prayer for Peace held simultaneously in Manila, Davao, Cebu, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro and other areas.
