The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has dismissed several employees involved in the escape of a high-profile Korean fugitive, following the release of damning CCTV footage and new evidence exposing internal collusion.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado confirmed that the surveillance footage and witness testimonies clearly showed the involvement of certain BI personnel in aiding the fugitive’s escape.
The investigation revealed that some officials allegedly facilitated the fugitive’s movements, allowing him to evade deportation and flee undetected. The exact circumstances surrounding the escape remain under thorough review.
Authorities have since filed criminal charges against the dismissed employees at the Department of Justice (DOJ). Additionally, other personnel suspected of involvement have been placed under preventive suspension pending further investigation.
The BI has also launched an internal audit of all high-risk deportation and detention cases to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
Commissioner Viado assured the public that the agency remains committed to holding accountable those responsible, emphasizing that no stone will be left unturned in the pursuit of justice.
