Malacañang urged the public to avoid careless garbage disposal after a “sea of trash” was left in parts of Metro Manila as floodwaters subsided following heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon, or Habagat.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro made the statement during a press briefing Tuesday, Aug. 11, following the appearance of large amounts of garbage in areas affected by flooding.
Castro called on the public to cooperate and take action instead of being careless about waste disposal.
She said the government cannot continue working to address problems while members of the public remain careless and later point fingers at others over who is responsible.
“Hindi puwedeng nagkukuya-kuyakoy lang tayo,” Castro said during the briefing.
Castro also emphasized the need for everyone to work together in addressing the issue.
The Palace statement came after floodwaters receded in several parts of Metro Manila, revealing accumulated garbage in affected areas.
The flooding followed heavy rainfall associated with the Habagat.
