ERC greenlights grid link for 206-MW Northern Samar wind project

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved the grid connection of the 206-megawatt San Isidro Wind Power Project in Northern Samar, strengthening the Visayas’ renewable energy network and boosting clean power generation.

Northern Samar 2nd District Representative Edwin Ongchuan said on Wednesday, October 8, that the ERC approval highlights the results of the province’s early investment campaign that encouraged renewable energy developers to invest in the area.

He added that the project would stabilize the Visayas grid, lessen dependence on imported fuels, and strengthen access to sustainable power across the region.

Lihangin Wind Energy Corporation is developing the project and will connect it to the Visayas grid through the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) substations in Calbayog and San Isidro.

The San Isidro Wind Power Project will install 33 wind turbine generators and more than 130 transmission towers across 176 hectares in the coastal villages of Salvacion, San Juan, Palanit, Mabuhay, Veriato, and Caglanipao.

Aboitiz Renewables Inc., together with partners Vivant Energy Corp. and Singapore-based Vena Energy, leads the construction and targets commercial operations by February 2026.

The project has already secured all required permits from the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Ongchuan, who pushed renewable energy and investment programs as governor in 2024, said the province now stands as a rising hub for green investments in Eastern Visayas.

The wind project will help the government reach its target of increasing renewable energy’s share in the national power mix to 35 percent by 2030.*
