Three members and supporters of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) surrendered to Philippine Army units in separate operations in Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur, while troops also unearthed an arms cache.
The operations were conducted by units under the 401st Infantry Brigade of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division.
On Aug. 22, Michael M. Anga-an, alias “Piko,” a former mass supporter of the Dismantled Guerrilla Front 21, surrendered in Barangay Bagyang, San Miguel, Surigao del Sur. He turned over an improvised shotgun and two rounds of ammunition.
On Aug. 25, Roger Tana Gana, alias “Jake,” a former Militia ng Bayan member from Sibagat, Agusan del Sur, also surrendered. He turned over a homemade shotgun, two revolvers and six rounds of ammunition.
On Aug. 26, NPA member Erwin Carasco Pedrablanca, alias “Vincent,” surrendered to troops in Cantilan, Surigao del Sur. He also disclosed the location of an arms cache in Barangay Buntalid.
Troops recovered one M14 rifle, six rifle grenades and two improvised explosive devices with wires and switches from the site.
401st Infantry Brigade Commander Brig. Gen. Benjamin Leander said the accomplishments reflected the impact of sustained government peace and security efforts. He also emphasized cooperation among government forces, local stakeholders and communities in helping former members and supporters reintegrate into society.
4ID Commander Maj. Gen. Marion Angcao commended the 401st Infantry Brigade and its subordinate units for their contributions to peace and security efforts in the division’s area of responsibility.
