Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon raised doubts over the corruption accusations made by former lawmaker Zaldy Co, saying the claims in Co’s video statement appear unlikely. Dizon said the allegations against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. lack coherence and credibility based on how the issue unfolded.
He pointed out that if the President were truly involved in corruption linked to infrastructure projects, it would not make sense for him to expose the issue himself or establish the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI). The commission was formed to look into irregularities tied to public works, a move Dizon said contradicts the narrative Co presented.
Dizon also questioned Co’s credibility, noting that the former congressman has already left the country after releasing the video. He said this raises further concerns about the integrity of the accusations and the motives behind them.
The Palace earlier defended Marcos, dismissing Co’s statements as hearsay. Officials said the claims lacked supporting evidence and should not be treated as factual. The administration emphasized that the creation of the ICI is proof of the President’s intention to address corruption concerns rather than avoid them.
Co’s video has stirred public attention, prompting calls for clarity as the ICI continues its work. For now, the government maintains that the allegations remain unsubstantiated, while Dizon’s remarks add pressure on Co to present verifiable evidence.
