DICT advises public not to panic over hacking threat

Information and Communications Technology Secretary Henry Rhoel Aguda assured the public that there is no reason to panic over the rumored cyberattacks expected tomorrow.

In an interview, Aguda said government agencies and private institutions are prepared to counter Distributed Denial of Service or DDoS attacks reportedly planned by “hacktivists.”

He added that local banks, telecommunications companies, and government offices have already made the necessary preparations.

With this, Aguda advised Filipinos using apps and online platforms to remain calm, saying there are existing solutions to DDoS attacks and that cybersecurity professionals remain vigilant.

Meanwhile, the cyber defense protocols of police anti-cybercrime agents are now fully activated in preparation for any threats.

Acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez, Jr. said the Anti-Cybercrime Group has been ordered to form round-the-clock coordination centers with the DICT, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA), and the AFP Cyber Group to ensure the continuity of public services and prevent any attempt to sabotage the country’s online space.
