The Department of Health (DOH) Region XI recorded 163 deaths due to dengue across the Davao Region in 2024, marking a 40% increase in cases compared to 2023.
According to data from the Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit XI, a total of 28,397 dengue cases were reported last year, with Davao City having the highest number of fatalities. The city recorded 7,167 cases and 58 deaths, followed by Davao del Norte with 8,804 cases and 42 deaths. Meanwhile, Davao de Oro had 4,788 cases and 22 deaths, Davao Oriental recorded 1,838 cases and 20 deaths, and Davao del Sur logged 4,232 cases with 19 deaths. Davao Occidental had the lowest numbers, with 1,550 cases and two deaths.
With the alarming rise in cases, DOH XI is urging the public to take strict preventive measures against dengue. The agency emphasizes the 5S strategy, which includes searching and destroying mosquito breeding sites, self-protection by wearing protective clothing and using repellents, seeking early medical consultation, supporting fogging operations in outbreak areas, and sustaining proper hydration to prevent complications.
Authorities remind residents that early detection and prevention remain the most effective ways to combat dengue.
