COMELEC mulls disqualification vs early campaigners

Aspirants in the 2025 Midterm Elections may face disqualification if they will not heed the poll body’s call for them to take down their billboards, posters and other campaign materials ahead of the campaign period.

Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman George Garcia warned that those who will ignore their call may face disqualification.

“They must take them down before the start of the campaign period because that will be a ground to disqualify them” Garcia said

In previous interviews Garcia admitted that they cannot do anything with the proliferating campaign materials as the Election Automation Law states that any person who files Certificate of Candidacy shall only be considered as a candidate at the start of the campaign period.

The poll body however passed Resolution No. 11086 that states “ all prohibited forms of election propaganda shall be immediately removed, or caused to be removed by said candidate or party at least 72 hours before the start of the campaign period.”

Garcia admitted that he is dismayed over the proliferation of premature campaigning materials along the roads and streets as well as advertisements on TV and radio.
