Brawner warns soldiers: resign if You meddle in politics

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. issued a stern warning to soldiers meddling in politics, urging them to resign and leave the military.

“Take off the uniform if you want to engage in politics,” Brawner declared in a fiery statement on Thursday. He emphasized the military’s sworn duty to protect the Constitution and avoid political interference at all costs.

Brawner’s remarks came amid former President Rodrigo Duterte’s controversial call for the military to “save” what he described as a “broken government.” The AFP chief unequivocally rejected Duterte’s suggestion, stressing the importance of upholding the chain of command and the military’s nonpartisan stance.

Brawner disclosed that he has spoken directly with commanders across the AFP to reinforce the organization’s commitment to professionalism and discipline. He underscored that any deviation from their oath of service undermines the very fabric of democracy.
