NIA says it is prepared for El Niño impacts

The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) has assured the public that it is taking a proactive approach to addressing climate change, particularly in preparation for the expected severe El Niño conditions in the country.

According to NIA Administrator Eduardo Guillen, the agency’s projects are designed to be climate-resilient despite the low water levels recorded in several dams.

Guillen said the NIA has already implemented mitigation and adaptation projects, making the agency ready for the dry season.

He added that the agency continues to closely monitor water levels in dams nationwide.

At the same time, Guillen urged farmers to plant crops that require less water in order to cope with possible water shortages.
